Savings Calculator
See how regular contributions add up over time.
Solve for the monthly deposit you need — or how long it'll take
…to go from your current savings to your goal in the time you set.
How to use it
- 1Enter your savings goal and how much you've already saved.
- 2Pick a mode: solve for the monthly contribution needed by a target date, or solve for how long it takes at a monthly amount you choose.
- 3Enter your expected annual return, plus either the years you have or your monthly deposit, depending on the mode.
- 4Read the result, and check the total contributed vs. growth from interest breakdown alongside the chart.
Example
Starting with $2,000, aiming for $20,000 in 5 years at a 4% annual return, you'd need to save about $271/month. Flip to the "Time to reach goal" tab and ask the reverse question instead — at $200/month from that same $2,000, it takes about 6 years 10 months to reach $20,000.
How it works
Both modes solve the same compound-growth equation for a different unknown. "Monthly amount needed" works backward from your target amount to solve for the fixed monthly contribution that gets you there by a set date, accounting for growth on both your current savings and each future deposit. "Time to reach goal" instead fixes your monthly deposit and solves for how many months of compounding it takes to cross the goal line — useful when you know what you can afford to save each month but not how long it'll take.
