Body Fat Calculator
Estimate body fat percentage from a few measurements.
| Category | Body fat range (men) |
|---|---|
| Essential fat | 0% – 5% |
| Athletic | 6% – 13% |
| Fitness | 14% – 17% |
| Average | 18% – 24% |
| Obese | 25% and above |
How to use it
- 1Choose your sex and unit system (metric cm or imperial inches).
- 2Measure and enter your height, weight, neck, and waist — plus hip if you selected female.
- 3Read your estimated body fat percentage, category, and fat mass / lean mass split on the gauge and reference table.
Example
A man at 175 cm tall, 75 kg, with a 38 cm neck and 85 cm waist comes out to roughly 16.9% body fat — in the “Fitness” category — which works out to about 12.7 kg of fat mass and 62.3 kg of lean mass.
How it works
This uses the U.S. Navy circumference method, developed by the Navy as a fast, tape-measure-only alternative to skinfold calipers or hydrostatic weighing. It estimates body fat from neck, waist (and hip, for women) circumference relative to height — it's an estimate, not as precise as clinical methods like a DEXA scan. If you also enter your weight, that percentage is split into fat mass and lean mass in kg or lb, and the gauge and reference table below show where your result sits among the Essential / Athletic / Fitness / Average / Obese bands for your sex.
